STARTING A NEW BUSINESS AT A YOUNG AGE?
ERNST & YOUNG - YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR, TAMMY MAY, TOOK THAT LEAP OF FAITH TOO!
TAMMY MAY originated her business from her kitchen table when she was 22 years old. Previously working at a legal firm, she had witnessed the hardship and impact of financial debt people face and most of them had no understanding how to reduce their debt. With the inspiration to make a difference she started MyBudget, which is now recognised as the nation’s leader in personal budgeting services. Founded in 1999, since then has helped more than 45,000 people and stimulated Australians to get financially fit.
"SOMETIMES YOU'RE BRAVER WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG"
Tammy was acknowledged with the Yellow Business Owner Award in 2007 and the Australian Government Business Innovation Award. Credit to Tammy's business accomplishments continued in 2008 when she won Ernst and Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the central region's young entrepreneur category and in 2010 became the Top Female Entrepreneur List. Her company has remained on the Fast 100 list for four years since 2009, Tammy May says winning the Telstra South Australian Business Women of the year award in 2007 was a highlight.
"I WANTED TO TAKE THE RISK BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING SUCH A BIG DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES"
